THOUSAND OAKS, Calif. -- Jeff Fisher thought Jared Goff handled his NFL debut splendidly. The Los Angeles Rams coach isnt so happy with his prized rookie quarterbacks teammates after another winnable game slipped away and left their playoff hopes in peril. One week after Goffs promotion, Fisher is considering more lineup changes for the Rams (4-6) before their trip to New Orleans on Sunday. The coach cited Los Angeles eight penalties for 70 yards as the biggest reason for a dispiriting 14-10 loss to the Miami Dolphins. Its those things that are hurting us, and those guys have to understand, Fisher said Monday. So there potentially may be some different guys playing this week.Although Aaron Donald and Alec Ogletree arent going to lose their jobs, Fisher mentioned both of his defensive captains by name for ill-advised penalties on Miamis two touchdown drives after the LA defense excelled on the first 54 minutes.Any lineup changes are much more likely to occur on offense, where errors also abounded.Left tackle Greg Robinson drew Fishers specific ire for his latest bad penalty in a career full of them: An illegal block far behind the play to negate an 11-yard scramble by Goff into Dolphins territory for a first down in the fourth quarter.Robinson, the No. 2 overall pick in the 2014 draft, is the NFLs most-penalized player over the past two seasons with 28 flags. Were looking at everything right now, Fisher said. We need production. We need to minimize mistakes, and weve got some repeat mistake-makers, so thats still under discussion.Fisher might change his starters, but he said he wont change his coaching staff this season. He gave a vote of confidence to Rob Boras, his offensive coordinator and play-caller.I have not given any consideration to changing play-callers, Fisher said. I did that last year. I have confidence in Rob, and the offense has confidence in Rob. The offense knows that right now, theyre not doing what they should be doing.Fisher replaced offensive coordinator Frank Cignetti with Boras in St. Louis last December while the Rams were mired in 31st place in total offense. Los Angeles is back in 31st place after 10 games this season, averaging a mere 299.9 yards per game.Fisher sees no reason to blame Goff, who went 17 of 31 for 134 yards with no touchdowns and no turnovers. His longest completion went 21 yards, and the Rams didnt call many long passes to test the rookies big arm.I was impressed with what he did, Fisher said. Hes not going to say he was OK, because we lost, but I thought he managed things well. No delay of games. He was in complete control. ... We didnt take our shots down the field that, in retrospect, we probably needed to do, but he knew where to go with the football. I was proud of his first outing. We get a stop or intercept a pass, one of the two or three we had our hands on, to win the game, and were talking about Jared right now and nothing else.Just as Case Keenum was rarely the problem during the Rams recent four-game losing streak, Goff was far from the most glaring problem for the Rams. Fisher thought the No. 1 overall pick handled his first start with minimal jitters, as did Dolphins coach Adam Gase.I thought he did a pretty good job as far as what we were bringing at him, Gase said. We were trying to pressure him a little bit, give him some different looks, and he didnt really seem bothered by much of it.Game notes Fisher is still gathering information to make a decision about CB Troy Hill, who was inactive after getting arrested Saturday morning following a freeway crash. I spoke to him briefly today, Fisher said of Hill, who has started four games this season. Very disappointed in him. Disappointed in his choices. ... LB Josh Forrest is probably out for the season after injuring his knee Sunday, Fisher said. The rookie from Kentucky has been a solid special-teams contributor. LB Nic Grigsby is likely to be promoted from the practice squad to replace him for the final six games.---For more NFL coverage: http://www.pro32.ap.org

. -- There were a lot of firsts for the Edmonton Oilers on Tuesday night. (STATS) -- If youre looking for high-octane offense and passing games that can barely be slowed let alone stopped, its a good weekend to be a football fan.Friday nights Cal-Oregon shootout can be your amuse-bouche. Settle in for an entree on Saturday in the FBS (TCU-West Virginia, Oklahoma-Texas Tech) or FCS (Lehigh-Holy Cross, Montana-Northern Arizona), and if theres room for dessert, you could do a lot worse than Chargers-Falcons on Sunday afternoon. Those air raids might make a game like Saturdays tilt between The Citadel and Wofford at Spartanburgs Gibbs Stadium tough to swallow. But the Bulldogs and Terriers will shove it down your throat anyway. There are 125 teams in the FCS, and if you treat the combined passing attempts of The Citadel and Wofford as one team, theyd rank 120th. This is nothing new. Theyre the bottom two in the subdivision when it comes to putting the ball in the air for a third consecutive season. Its ground and pound all the way for these triple-option attacks, and if that isnt working? Keep grinding. There are a lot of similarities there, Citadel coach Brent Thompson said. They do a lot more out of the shotgun than we do on offense, but a lot of the basic premises are the same. Their defense is a little different than ours, but there are a lot of similarities there, too.Thompsons team would seem to be on letdown alert after one of the biggest wins in program history. The Bulldogs (6-0, 4-0) played keep-away from then-No. 5 Chattanooga last Saturday, holding the ball for 39:26 of a 22-14 win that established them as the SoCons team to beat. But theres no reason to overlook the Terriers (4-2, 2-1), who spent last weekend resting after a 31-19 win at Western Carolina on Oct. 8. Wofford won 16 straight in the series prior to last seasons 39-12 Citadel rout.We went down there (in 2015) and we played bad, and they punished us, Wofford coach Mike Ayers said. They flat punished us.Every game Ive watched, they havent had a lull in their play. Theyre very consistent in their psychological makeup, and theyre verry consistent in the Xs and the Os and the physical part of the game.dddddddddddd. This team is undefeated. Say no more.It should come as little surprise that The Citadel and Wofford rank 1-2 nationally in time of possession, with the Bulldogs 35:43 average giving them a six-second edge on the Terriers. But Thompsons team has been particularly unwilling to share in its last three games, holding it for 40:35 per contest. The ballgames gonna be determined by what team can get the other team off the field, Ayers said. If you dont win some third downs against those guys, theyll stay on the field all the way to the goal line.As good as both teams are at running the ball -- The Citadel averages 5.5 yards per carry while Woffords at 5.3 -- theres a bit of a defensive edge for the Terriers. Theyre allowing an FCS-low 2.1 yards per carry -- 1.8 better than the Bulldogs 3.9 -- and Ayers team is better defensively overall, yielding just 4.60 yards per play while The Citadel allows 5.47.The Bulldogs enter as just a 1 1/2-point favorite, so perhaps Las Vegas is factoring in the potential of a letdown -- or maybe there just isnt much separating these two mirror images.Theres little doubt, though, that Wofford needs it more in terms of making the playoffs. The Citadel has its signature win, gets a chance at another solid resume victory when Samford visits in two weeks and shouldnt have a problem getting in with a loss or two if it doesnt win the SoCon. The Terriers likely need to beat either the Bulldogs or Chattanooga to have a shot at getting an at-large spot. But Wofford has its sights set higher than sneaking in. Win Saturday and at worst the Terriers will finish the weekend tied for the conferences top spot in the loss column. Should The Citadel earn its first victory at Wofford since 1998, the Bulldogs might threaten to run away with it.Come Saturday, they might have found the team that can run with them.
