THOUSAND OAKS, Calif. -- Los Angeles Rams coach Jeff Fisher said he is not concerned about his job even though so much negativity has surrounded him during the teams 4-7 season. On Sunday, there was the Rams?49-21 blowout loss?to the New Orleans Saints, their sixth defeat in a span of seven games. On Monday and Tuesday, there was a public spat with Rams legend Eric Dickerson that went viral, with Dickerson vowing to never attend games so long as Fisher is the teams coach. On Wednesday, Fisher was ridiculed by New England Patriots reporters who came away thinking he could not name the teams running backs on a conference call.Meanwhile, fans and pundits everywhere continue to clamor for his firing and continue to reference his infamous comments in an episode of HBOs Hard Knocks, in which he vowed to not put up with 7-9 bulls---.Fishers Rams would be lucky to even finish 7-9.We opened our world to Hard Knocks, Fisher said when asked about those comments after Wednesdays practice. Those comments came after a couple of issues that we had. Ive never been satisfied with 7-9 or 8-8. Ive had a number of winning seasons. Im not concerned. I dont look over my shoulder, like Ive said over and over again. Im not concerned about my job. I have a great relationship with [Rams owner Stan Kroenke]. He understands the difficulties that were placed on this organization as far as the move is concerned. And Im moving forward optimistically with this team.A deal might not officially be in place, but the expectation remains that Fisher will be back next season, along with general manager Les Snead, who also is in the final year of his contract.Fishers Rams have finished no better than 7-8-1 since he arrived in 2012, though the organization lost 65 of 80 games in the five seasons leading up to that. In 14 of his 20 full seasons as an NFL head coach, Fishers teams have failed to sport a winning record. He now has 163 career losses, two away from tying Dan Reeves for the NFL record with five games remaining this season. But the Rams higher-ups have given him the benefit of the doubt, privately throughout the year and publicly recently.Everybody will want to judge Jeff through the prism of just the record, but thats totally unfair when you look at the set of circumstances he was handed this year, Rams COO Kevin Demoff told It was different than any team in the NFL. ... We moved halfway across the country, then had [organized team activities] in Oxnard. Training camp was in Irvine, now were in Thousand Oaks. We moved coaches and players and families. To provide leadership and consistency, hes done a model job.Fans who already were getting fed up with the teams perpetual mediocrity were set off when Dickerson revealed that Fisher, in his mind, banned him from being on the sideline during games because his comments made players uncomfortable. That prompted analysts throughout the country to loudly proclaim that Fisher needs to be let go.And as if that wasnt enough, Fisher used the names Brandon and Danny when talking about the Patriots running backs beyond LeGarrette Blount in a conference call with Patriots reporters on Wednesday, even though the group consists of James White and Dion Lewis. Brandon is Brandon Bolden, a running back who plays exclusively on special teams, and Danny is Danny Amendola, a receiver.Fisher knows Amendola is a receiver, of course, and he was probably just lumping him in with all the other dynamic players on the Patriots. But it has just been that kind of week for him.Over the years, Ive learned to realize that the most important thing is to be consistent, Fisher said. You need to be consistent to do this. Consistency through the wins, consistency through the losses, and just keep moving your team forward. You guys have been out here, youve seen these guys. They love to practice, they like each other. We went through some trying things over time. I had a player in particular who lost his grandfather last night. And I had a coach that his son gave birth to his grandson. As a family, you stress those things, and you stress the importance of coming to work every day and how lucky we are. We had a good example of the circle of life today with respects to our team. Rocky Bleier Jersey .Y. -- Syracuse has turned up the defence at the right time all season, and when High Point threatened to pull off a monumental upset the second-ranked Orange did what they do best with their quick hands and savvy play. Sean Davis Jersey .B. - Sebastien Auger made 44 saves as the Saint John Sea Dogs edged the visiting Acadie-Bathurst Titan 2-1 on Saturday in Quebec Major Junior Hockey League action. . After taking two big hits this week -- losing at home and dropping back-to-back games for the first time all season -- Indiana struck back by playing its most complete game of the year. Jack Butler Jersey . -- Lou Brocks shoulder-to-shoulder collision with Bill Freehan during the 1968 World Series and Pete Roses bruising hit on Ray Fosse in the 1970 All-Star game could become relics of baseball history, like the dead-ball era. Hines Ward Jersey . The Dane followed up his first European Tour title last weekend with eight birdies and just a single dropped shot on Thursday for a one-stroke advantage over South Africas Allan Versfeld and Portugals Ricardo Santos. COLLEGE PARK, Md. -- Maryland coach Brenda Frese wondered if her players were fully awake for their late morning tip-off against in-state foe Mount St. Marys. They had turnovers, breakdowns on defense and uncharacteristically missed open shots. However, it didnt take long for the No. 6 Terrapins to fix the problem. Brionna Jones finished with 18 points and 10 rebounds to help No. 6 Maryland rout the Mountaineers 106-42 on Friday.Ieshia Small had 14 points off the bench for Maryland (3-0). Shatori Walker-Kimbrough, Kaila Charles and Jenna Staiti added 10 points apiece for the Terrapins, who shot 58 percent from the field.I thought we had a really slow, sluggish start, Frese said. Our shots werent falling and we werent as crisp as we usually are. The second half was a much better indicator of how we want to play for 40 minutes. The Mountaineers (1-2) trailed only 18-13 at the end of the first quarter. But the Terrapins used their size to take control. The 6-foot-3 Jones scored 12 points to boost the lead to 34-18 with 3:37 left in the second quarter. We have a lot of weapons on our team, Jones said. Anybody can come off the bench and score. Were just going to keep playing our brand of basketball. The Mountaineers tried to stay in the game by hoisting three-pointers, but they went 3 of 21 and trailed 37-20 at the break. They finished 7 of 32 from behind the arc.A pair of free throws and layup by freshman Destiny Slocum boosted the margin to 57-25 midway through the third quarter, and the only uncertainty was whether Maryland would score 100 or more points for the third straight game.A 3-pointer by Sarah Myers gave Maryland a 100-39 llead late in the fourth quarter.ddddddddddddKatrice Dickson led Mount St. Marys with 12 points.I thought we played really well in the first quarter, Mountaineers coach Bryan Whitten. We became very undisciplined on the offensive side in the second quarter. You give up 37 points in the first half, you think youre in a good spot.BIG PICTUREMount St. Marys: The Mountaineers started four guards to play uptempo and put their best shooters in the floor. The strategy worked early before the Terrapins did a better job protecting the ball and wearing them down.Maryland: Frese is pleased with the quick start of her team, which has averaged 104 points in three games against much weaker programs. Her deep roster will help create matchup problems for most opponents this season.FAB FRESHMANMaryland freshmen Destiny Slocum and Kaila Charles were in the starting lineup for the third consecutive game. Both played well enough to maintain those spots. Charles scored in double figures for the third time, and Slocum has seamlessly run the plays at point guard.FINDING A HOMEThe Mountaineers Mikal Johnson, a graduate transfer, is playing for her third college program. Johnson played two seasons at Rider, where she was a MAAC All-Rookie Team selection, and then one year at Liberty. After scoring in double figures in each of the first two games, Johnson had three points against Maryland.UP NEXTMt. St. Marys: The Mountaineers host Fairfield on Sunday.Maryland: The Terrapins play at Niagara on Sunday in their first road trip.
